[Day 1]: The power of social media to build your online business

It’s been a busy summer but here I am taking the Social Media Challenge hosted by Natalie of Suitcase Entrepreneur.  This the question of the day

What are three ways you can improve your current social media strategy today?

Many companies think that having a presence on Twitter, Facebook or Google + is enough to capture people’s attention. However, many of them fail to connect with their audience because they are not in sync with their language and instead of telling stories, they are selling. A big no no if you are planning to implement Social Media to your marketing strategy.

While big companies have the budget to maintain and monitor conversations, small business don’t have the time or the resources to hire a person who can deal with that. So, what should I do? I believe, the first thing to do is:

  1. Know your audience. What social network do they use? What type of content do they like? Perform research on your current customers’ social media habits, and ensure your company’s buyer persona profiles. Dedicate your social media strategy to the platform (s) that align best to your business audience.
  2. Make sure to use analytics. So you’re all set, you have your Facebook Page and Twitter Page and your website has a lot of traffic. Do you know where they come from? How long are they staying on your website? Tip, pick a handful of metrics, track and analyze in a regular basis.
  3. Listen and Respond. Seriously. People using social media is constantly asking questions and sharing good and bad moments with a brand or service. Have a plan to monitor conversations and dedicate time for engagement.
I believe these 3 points are essential to start creating a social media strategy but there are lots of tips and tricks that you will discover according to your audience and how they react.

People love when someone re-tweet or favourite something on Twitter or even better when you share or like their content/comment on Facebook.

Well, that’s it. I hope you will find this helpful
